To the ladies and gentlemen of the jury, the law is in place to keep order and everybody safe, when it is violated people can get hurt. Since Lou Dempsey decided to violate the law by selling alcohol to minors, Kirk Benton could have died. Lou Dempsey sold alcohol to a minor named Eric Howe. Eric bought two kegs of beer from Lou, then brought it to a party. During the party there was a stabbing which led to the hospitalization of Kirk Benton. I believe that Lou Dempsey should be held accountable for the underage drinking and stabbing at the party because he sold the beer to a minor. Breaking the law by selling to a minor can lead to even more dangerous outcomes.When asked about the rarity of alcohol-related incidents, she said "I see them daily." Lou should know how common those accidents are as a liquor store owner. He should know how much more likely that an accident would happen with a minor involved.Due to frequency and dangers Lou should know how not to sell alcohol to minors. He had sold liquor to Eric multiple times, knowing he was only 18 at the time. Lou had knowingly broken the law Subdivision 1 consumption "It is illegal for anyone licensed to sell liquor to allow a minor under age 21 to drink alcohol on his or her property." Lou had broken subdivision consumption when he sold to Alex. Since Lou had decided to break the law, it allowed Alex and Kirk to get drunk enough to fight and eventually lead to the stabbing of Kirk. As well as breaking Subdivision 1 consumption, he had also broken Subdivision 1 of the Civil Damages Act, Cause of action.
