On November 29th, 1832 Louisa May Alcott was born in Germantown, Pennsylvania. Alcott was the second of 4 girls. When she was young her family moved to Boston, Massachusetts where he father pursued teaching. In 1840 her family moved to Concord where her close friend Ralph Waldo helped her family set up residence. Not able to guarantee a steady income her family moved back to Boston in 1849. She started taking as many jobs as she could to help out her family. She began teaching to young children and washing laundry with her sister Anna. In 1852 her first poem “Sunlight” was published.
