According to Louise Bernikow’s “Cinderella: A Day at the Movies,” the ultimate goal for women is to marry someone who can boost your social and economic status. The primary goal is to marry the prince for advancement in social status and financial stability. The goal is to marry that person so then you can get out of poverty and get out of hard labor. Women had no other option but to marry someone for financial security because women had a very small amount of rights during that time. Women could not work or own property, so they had no other option but to marry for financial security. To carry out their ultimate goal, women had to be pretty in any way. In the movie Shrek, Shrek the main character is an ogre that everybody fears. In the film, many people think Shrek is disgusting and nobody wanted to see him. Lord Farquaad is the ruler in the movie that needs to marry a princess to get absolute power and to become a king fully. Farquaad decides to send Shrek to rescue a princess named Fiona. By making Fiona Farquaad’s queen, he will become the king. Shrek finds Fiona, but Fiona does not like Shrek initially because he is an ogre. Shrek states that nobody cares to learn Shrek’s personality. When Fiona does start to learn about some of Shrek’s personality, she began to fall in love with Shrek. Fiona now has a choice to go with Lord Farquaad and become the new queen or, to go with Shrek, the person she truly loves. If she decided to marry Farquaad she would’ve became a beautiful queen with much power and wealth. Fiona still chose to marry Shrek, the person she truly loves and cares for and becomes an ogre too. Fiona gave up the chance to become a queen with a large amount of social and economic power to marry the person she truly loves.
