The passionate love of Romeo and Juliet conflicts with the harsh contrast of the hate between their families and the society they live in.

Most people would say the prevailing emotion is love and I agree with this however hate also plays a big part in the play of Romeo and Juliet. Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is a play about two young lovers whose was destined for destruction from the beginning because of the hatred between the two families, Montagues and Capulets. Therefore love versus hate is one of the major themes in the play and most of the action in the play relates to one or the other. There are many different example of love that shown in the play such as family love, love of friendship, forbidden love and sexual love. Romeo says this when he first lays eyes on Juliet. The love Romeo and Juliet share is passionate although it is based off physical attraction. no different than his passion for Rosaline because he is merely in love with the idea of being in love. Juliet finds out who Romeo is, she asks him why he can't deny his name and his family. Juliet knows she is suppose to hate the Montague's, but she is loves Romeo, no matter what is name is.

"Myonly love, sprungfrom my only hate! Too early seen unknown, and known too late. Prodigious birth of love is to me That I must love a loathed enemy."
