The theme of friendship is portrayed as a state of mutual trust, support in the conduct of a friend and a state of enduring affection between two people. Some authors like Khaled Hosseini in “The Kite Runner” (2003) demonstrate how loyalty and heartbreaking betrayal can form part of friendship as portrayed in his novel. The author describes how the friendship of Hassan (a Hazarra who is considered as being a minority) presents his loyalty to a wealthy boy Amir (a Pashtun who is considered a majority) only for his own benefit as well as for the affection of his father. It uses a range of language techniques such as the adjective ‘faithful’ to portray how Hassan was true-hearted and devoted to their friendship and always remembered all those good days they had ignoring the fact Amir wasn't honest, he will still remain his loyalty and steadfast even if he's far away. Hosseini also uses the noun ‘childhood’ to demonstrate how all of Hassan's life span and memories are with amir and all that he knew in life was his relationship with amir and for that reason he would let him pass anything even if it's risky to his life. It also uses the phrase ‘waiting for you’ to emphasise how Hassan can let pass anything to Amir just to have his affection and friendship to remain. Hinton uses the verb ‘rescue’ to reiterate the fact that Ponyboy can feel safe and reassured in the face of danger as long as he has the gang with him to count on. What the writer tries to demonstrate to the reader in this argument is that the union of this group is so strong and safe that any member can be sure that they can feel safe and keep in mind that they can always count on one another. The author also implies that in life you are never alone because you will always have someone to take care of
