The picture above is a depiction of LTC Joshua Chamberlain and the 20th Maine at the Battle of Little Round Top. In late June of 1863, the Confederate Army under General Robert E. Lee was massing near Gettysburg, PA. Gettysburg would arguably become the key battle of the Civil War. It was the pivotal moment where momentum in the war would change. It was the bloodiest battle of the entire war.
Task Force North (JSOTF-N) started the initial planning of Operation Anaconda. Forward Combined Forces Land Component Commander (CFLCC-FWD) finalized the plan for Operation Anaconda on February 13, 2002, in Bagram Airfield. On February 17, 2002, Central Command (CENTCOM) and CFLCC gave command authority of the operation to MG Franklin L. “Buster” Hagenback, commander of the 10th Mountain Division and Combined Joint Task Force (CJTF) Mountain. At this time, CJTF Mountain had a little over a week to take over an operation in which originally was tasked to Special Operations Forces (SOF). Complex Command Structure

The Borinqueneers: 65th Infantry Regiment in the Korea War In recent years, the world has been captivated by the history of heroism and sacrifice that represent the Borinqueneers. This 65th Infantry Regiment from Puerto Rico had to fight prejudice during their active service, but they became a lesson to the Latino-American community and other U.S. military segregated units. According to U.S. history (Bystran, 2016), the 65th Infantry Regiment Borinqueneers were the largest, longest standing, and only active duty segregated latino unit. In fact, they are the last segregated unit in combat.

The importance of the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry Regiment allowed African Americans to fight in the war without being discriminated based the color of their skin. This volunteer regiment was the first black unit in the U.S. armed forces to show that African Americans were competent as white men and deserve equal treatment. The regiment promoted the idea of racial equality and African Americans taking part in the Civil War. These men willingly volunteered, fought and sacrificed everything to deliver freedom and liberty for all men.

Book Review 2: Soldiers, Statesmen, and Cold War Crises by Richard Betts Summary: Betts starts off his book by recognizing the ambiguity around the advocacy of the use of force in a crisis by military leaders even though there is a prevalent assumption that military professionals are more aggressive than diplomats and politicians. He states he writes the book in order to provide a comprehensive survey of the postwar role of American military men in decisions on their most essential function, their use of force in combat. Betts acknowledges the vast availability of literature on military participation in decisions on defense budgets and weapons procurement, but feels there is a void when looking at decision-making from the perspective of military leadership versus civilian leadership.
