**A Dream doesn't become reality through magic; It takes sweat, determination and hard work. This is a very true quote by Colin Powell. In the story “Marble Champ” by Gary Soto, this girl named Lupe is really bad at sports, but she wants to be good. When she gets inspired by the sport marbles, she is determined to win. Which means she is going to have to work very hard because she is very weak. Lupe ends up winning the championship, and she is proud of what she has done. I think that Lupe is a very admirable person. She is admirable because she is intelligent with the situations life throws at her and in school. A following reason, is that she is determined. To begin with she is a good sport is that she doesn't give up and even when she is bad at stuff like running. In the story it states “No matter how much she tried, she couldn't run as fast as the other girls” Lupe tries her best and doesn't do good. I bet some of the other kids make fun of her because she isn't as good as them or that she scored a ball in the other team’s goal. Lupe doesn't let that stuff get to her, she works harder. In addition to that she practices for hours, doing push-ups, squeezing erasers and shooting marbles. Lupe doesn't do just normal push-ups though, she does the on her finger tips to improve her shooting. Even when she could just give up because it hurts, she doesn't stop she just tried harder. This means that Lupe is pretty good sport about things. When she wants to stop doing push ups she does one more set. In the beginning of the story the author states “Her thumb was weaker than a neck of a newborn chick.” Lupe had a really weak thumb and after she kept working, in the end it was so muscular it looked as if it were swollen.
