On August 20, 1989 Jose and Mary Menendez were found shot to death in their Beverly Hills home on 722 North Elm Drive. The convicted were their sons, Lyle and Erik Menendez. At the time, Lyle was aged twenty one and Erik was eighteen. Their parents, Mary Anderson and Jose Menendez, were on the coach when the two sons entered the room and shot them dead by the use of shotguns. The brothers claimed that they have returned from a night of the movies and found their parents assassinated. The brothers called 911 and screamed, “Someone killed my parents!”. Although it brought them to distraught that night, their behavior over the next few months did not show distraught. Erik was also struggling with his sexuality, and not being straight was something his apparently homophobic parents wouldn't have been very accepting of. After the murder, Erik began to feel burdened by guilt. He confessed to his therapist, Dr.Oziel that himself and his brother were the ones who killed their parents. Dr.Oziel’s mistress claimed she overheard a therapy session which Dr.Oziel had taped in which the brothers confessed to their murders. For many years people heard one side of the story that was put up by the prosecutors on why the brothers killed their parents. That reason was because they were greedy and they wanted to inherit their parent’s wealth. After a couple more years another story was brought out to the public and that was that the brothers were physically, sexually, and emotionally abused throughout their lifetime and they believed that their lives were in danger.
