Word Identification The QRI-4 guideline suggested Tessa begin reading the word lists at the upper middle grade level, two levels below her current grade level. However, it was necessary to test back to the fifth grade level due to Tessa’s performance on the suggested starting point. Tessa completed the fifth grade word list automatically with 90% accuracy, in the allotted time, signifying she read the words at the independent level. When analyzing the sixth grade word list, Tessa automatically identified 70% of the words, indicating she was identifying words at the instructional level.

GENB 4350 Assignment 1 Not even three months ago did I have a massive moral quandary in which I had to choose between saving my dog’s life or letting him suffer for the rest of his life. Last year my dog, Milo, suddenly required surgery because of a ruptured disk in his back. At any given time would he go into fits of screaming. This would happen when he was moved in a way that hurt his back. It was hard to watch him cry out in a way I had never heard him before.
Upon reading both passages, it is my belief that both of them provide competitive arguments but also conflict each other in the same aspect. For instance, in paragraph 2 of the first passage it claims that the freedom that the child has can provide a strong sense of self. At the same time, paragraph 3 of the second passage claims that the organizational activities cause children to develope a strong sense of identity. Both passages have thus made the same statement but, neither can provide reasons as to which method would be best suited for causing this behavior. A blend of both methods, in my opinion, could provide the best option.
In Chapter One of Thomas Cooley’s The Norton Sampler: Short Essays for Composition, the audience was exposed to several strategies recommended for reading pieces of literature. These strategies were divided into three segments: Previewing the Text, Reading Closely and Critically, and Responding to What You Read. Each segment contained a list of either advice or questions the reader could heed to while analyzing their given text. Later, the chapter exposed the audience to the four traditional types of writing utilized.
This chapter can help young writers in English class with their papers in many different ways. For instance, Trimble gives examples on what a veteran writer does in order to make their writing interesting. He also gives out techniques on how you can get a reader’s attention or how you can fix your writing to make it readable instead of having nonsense. What makes this difficult for me as a writer is that I write what ever comes to my mind and it will not make sense. Another thing that makes it difficult for me as a writer is that I am not good at getting the readers attention and having him hooked on to my work.
This semester was filled with many bumpy roads. I struggled in the beginning of the semester with my writings , as I didn 't feel confident enough to write a well developed writing. I seemed to find myself struggling whereas writing was not my favorable subject. The major errors I had in my writings this semester would be , grammatical errors,work citations, transition words, formatting ,paragraph development, sentence structure , and sentence level issue. Therefore I have set goals to improve my writing in the future.
The reading and writing practices of the book, Writing about Writing, and the class ENG 1301, create a sense of identity to writing rather than the basic teachings. Within the book and the class practices, they value the involvement of different perspectives and their understandings. While many students and my past experiences, hold only grammar mistakes and flow. The book and the class want us the readers to understand that we will not be learning how to write through steps, but more through our own understanding of our different writing and reading styles.

Writing has always been an issue but yet interesting subject of mine. As hard as I try and write essays, and papers I just can’t get the hang of writing. But after taking this class, I did learn different writing technique and improved my writing proficiency, material body of formatting, and how to uncovering and properly use sources. Through class exams, essays, and a research paper, I was able to learn new writing skills. Although I have learned a variety of things, my writing still needs improvement.
