The Tragedy of Macbeth is a well known story that revolves around the word “ambition” but this ambition isn’t always self driven by someone, but rather through the influence of someone else who maintains control of the situation. The story is about a man whose desire to be the king and have power leads to the murders of those who might stand in his way. Throughout the story we see many characters who play major parts in how one event follows another, and how some characters seem to completely have control of the events in the story. Although in Macbeth the Three Sisters and Macbeth exhibit some control over the events, Lady Macbeth has the most responsibility.
As humans, the power to control is one of the most dominant feelings that ignores the harm it can cause others. The greed for more power brings out the selfish and merciless side of someone, leading them to their eventual downfall and the destruction of everyone around them. In the play Macbeth, by William Shakespeare, the story begins with Macbeth, who is King of Glamis, and Banquo, King of Lochaber, meeting with the Three Weird Sisters to hear a prophecy they foretell. Macbeth learns he will be crowned King of Scotland and the idea of him becoming king slowly consumes him, becoming his focus throughout the play. For them to control the throne, Macbeth and his wife form plans to kill everyone and anyone in their way, starting with King Duncan

While external factors such as social pressure, cultural norms, and personal circumstances can influence us, ultimately, we have agency in choosing how we respond to those factors. This is portrayed through William Shakespeare's tragedy, Macbeth, the titular character Macbeth is the protagonist, a Scottish general who receives a prophecy from three witches that he will become king. Consumed by ambition and spurred on by his wife, Lady Macbeth, Macbeth murders King Duncan and takes the throne for himself. However, his guilt and paranoia lead him to commit more murders in order to maintain his power, and he becomes increasingly tyrannical as his
In the play Macbeth, written by William Shakespeare the key relationship between Macbeth and Banquo is explored. By exploring the relationship it helped me understand these characters better. Specifically, Shakespeare wrote about friendship, loss of trust and betrayal which further helped me understand the characters. At the start of the play, Macbeth and Banquo’s relationship is genuine and friend-like. When introduced, they both are shown as noblemen and brave soldiers that fought side by side for King Duncan, as shown when he states, ‘Our captains, Macbeth and Banquo.”
Macbeth and Lady Macbeth go into the dinner they are bout to have. When Macbeth walks in, the first murderer comes to the door. Macbeth talks to him about Banquo’s death and that Fleance had escaped, this makes him very angry. After he talks to the murder he goes back to his dinner and when Macbeth goes to sit at the end of the table, he sees Banquo’s ghost sitting in his chair. Macbeth gets very scared seeing the blood running down his face, he speaks to him.
Having a gut feeling about something usually means that it's the way to go, the right thing to do. Macbeth had a feeling about killing King Duncan, but fell under pressure and the persuasion of Lady Macbeth. She wanted nothing more than to have Macbeth as king, and she was going to do anything to get what she wanted. Even if her wants caused Macbeth to destroy himself in the process. Macbeth is a tragic hero of hamartia, peripeteia, and hubris.
In William Shakespeare’s tragedy, Macbeth, characters are designed to compliment one another; whether it be to show a character’s weaknesses or strengths more efficiently. Referred to as a character foil, multiple characters throughout this tragedy contrast from Macbeth, and it is through their actions, that one is further able to analyze Macbeth’s traits and characteristics. Throughout the play, Macbeth’s main concern is gaining power and becoming influential. A character who serves as Macbeth’s foil is Banquo, because of the contrasting way he approaches a situation that foretells who will become rule in the near future. For my second literary work I chose the Shakespearean poem, Macbeth. One of the major themes in this poem is the idea of temptation and how the characters cope with it. I chose to use this picture from the movie, Snow White because it shows the temptation that the Disney princess deals with when being told by the witch to eat the apple. At first Snow White politely declines to have the apple, but is then overcome with temptation and eats the poisoned apple anyway. This picture shows Snow White dealing with temptation much like how Macbeth had to deal with his as a result of being told he would be the King of Scotland.

Macbeth Essay Banquo's significance as a character shapes the plot of the play, even after he leaves the world Macbeth resides in. In the tragedy of Macbeth, By William Shakespeare, the character Macbeth is told of his fate and his actions are then controlled by his knowledge of it. He kills the King and ascends to the throne, and becomes paranoid. Banquo plays an equally important role in Macbeth's decisions before he dies, as he does in the Lords’ conclusion that Macbeth has unfairly come to power after he dies. While Banquo still lives, Macbeth makes many decisions as the result of Banquo's existence in the play.
As tragic as Macbeth becomes through the play, his paranoia is also a factor that leads to his ultimate downfall, morally and physically. Macbeth, now a traitor after the assassination of the king, is paranoid of anybody who may threaten his position or how he attained it. After killing the king, Macbeth’s conscience is guilt-ridden and he is no longer able to sleep peacefully. His only worry is that someone may be plotting his murder, just as he strategized the death of the former King. If there was nothing stopping Macbeth from killing Duncan and committing treason, who is to say that no one else will make the same decision, killing Macbeth? Banquo is a brave, noble and loyal general, who fights beside his fellow general, Macbeth, to protect his King, Duncan, and his people. He is a man who keeps his promise and does not betray trust given to him. His close relationship with Macbeth and King Duncan and his encounter with the three witches prove to be important in the course of the play and gives us insight on how he is important dead as he is alive.
Compare and Contrast Macbeth and Banquo Once one elicits a promise of power, the question is what one should do with it. Should one enforce it and see it through, or should one simply let fate run its course? A prophecy presents itself to both Banquo and Macbeth that foretells a rise to power in their futures. When power presents itself to Macbeth, he becomes corrupt.

Lady Macbeth is shown, as a character that schemes into making rebellious plots. She reveals the desire for wanting to lose her feminine qualities in order to be able to gain more masculine ones.
Macbeth and Banquo were seen as relatively similar individuals who acted with nobility. At the beginning, they both were loyal military leaders who fought hard for their king and their country. However, after their encounter with the Three Weird Sisters, they began to show their differences through the actions they make in regards to prophecies they were given. Macbeth and Banquo were both heroic, noble and brave leaders who led their armies to victory numerous of times. They were loyal subjects to the king, and they lived their lives continuously fighting for him as well as the country.
