In the tragedy Macbeth,by William Shakespeare, argues that a person’s ambition is influenced by desire to the extent of feelings of remorse and defeat from crossing the line of one's personal values just to achieve temporary feelings of power and happiness. Macbeth throughout the play flourished emotionally and mentally as he climbed up the ladder of what he believed were his dreams and key source to happiness and power, which led him to set his personal values aside. This is what caused him to set his personal values aside, not the happiness or power he strived for, because he never wanted that until Lady Macbeth wanted it more than him. Once again it wasn’t just Lady Macbeth but the outside influences of the Three Witches that told him these prophecies also influenced him to set aside his personal values to achieve what was told to him. Therefore, the counterintuitive idea that outside influences were a greater cause for Macbeth to set aside his personal values and do these ambitious actions compared to him striving for happiness and power is also a reasonable argument. Even after achieving goals that bring temporary feelings of happiness and power, realization strikes from the actions done to achieve this, causing strong feelings of remorse and defeat to emerge. While Macbeth felt that he was untouchable and on top of the world with everything that has happened from the prophecy told to him, he starts to get hit with the realization that him becoming king and getting this power and happiness he wanted for so long has slowly vanished and he’s faced with the realization that everything he’s
