Insert Title Here Niccolo Machiavelli was a controversial man. He was the first person of his time to acknowledge and applaud the fact that refusing to follow Christian values made a ruler successful. During the 15th century, it was almost unheard of for a man to deny Christianity. Rulers especially were expected to be Christian men who would rule wisely because of their principles. While everyone else avoided this sensitive subject entirely, Machiavelli urged the people of his time to see the truth of one man ruling many people, which was often hidden behind the mask of battles, palaces, money, feasts, and charitable acts. Machiavelli went farther than suggesting that rulers give up Christianity to succeed, by stating that they also follow certain rules, which would make them prosperous leaders. Machiavelli insisted that a wise ruler must make his own laws, be shrewd and cunning, beat fortune to succeed, be feared rather than loved, and act for the good of the country. …show more content…

While telling the hyenas his plan to take over the throne, he sings a song with the following lyrics, acknowledging his deceitfulness. “…be prepared for the murkiest scam, meticulous planning, tenacity spanning, decades of denial is simply why I'll be king undisputed…” In order to enact his plan to kill his family, Scar must convince Simba to get into trouble. When Mufasa goes to save him and is killed by Scar’s neglect to help, Scar takes advantage of the young lion cub and pushes the blame on him when he growls, “…But the King is dead and if it weren’t for you he would still be alive. Oh what will your mother think? Run away Simba. Run. Run away and never return.” Simba believes his uncle and takes it to heart, running away, which leaves the throne open for Scar to steal. Scar is clever and cunning but even this in not enough to save him from his eventual
