The Mafia or “Mafie” is an organized-crime group in America and Italy.The Mafia organization started in Italy after WWII. It started in Sicily. The name Mafia comes from the Italian word “Mafioso.” The word initially was used as a title for people with great authority and then it became a bad name when the Mafia became a powerful and dangerous organization . Before WWII the Mafia groups were small groups of people who were protecting landowners. The groups were private armies who ask for money in order to protect rich people. Landowners who wanted to get revenge or who wanted to show other landowners their power, hired these private armies. The armies were used to get revenge and also for personal protection. It soon started to grow larger. In America it started in New York and then it moved to other cities. The Mafia first started to sell liquor (this did work because of the Prohibition Era). Then more and more the Mafia organization started to come to America and it started to become more aggressive. The Mafia to do crimes like attack other people. It would rob stores and even attack government troops. The Mafia people were beginning to become a major threat that someone had to stop. The paragraph below will explain the steps they went to stopping the threat of the mafia and the every growing groups. Therefore,you may say, which Mafia group did kill cops? Well lots did, as in the ones who would do more of a crime. An example is the Sicilian Mafia family. They have killed and paid cops. The reason they paid cops is so they could use them for a useful task. Cops were easily persuaded with cash (they paid cops lots of of money). Some of the tasks were killing others mafia leaders or people who were against the Mafia. Another task was to help Mafia leaders cheating their way out of court. St. Valentine's Day Massacre is a great example of the issues between cops and Mafia groups. In the St. valentine’s Day Massacre members of a gang dressed as cops killed a group of mafia workers because of gang wars. The Mafia usually tried to avoid conflicts in the streets but when the gang started to fire the Mafia fired back. The Mafia killed the gang members dressed as cops.The Mafia covered the murder because the government may have noticed the and start to send some people to find out who did it and stop
