The colonial park cemetery is one of the most haunted locations in all of savannah, Georgia. The cemetery opened in 1750. Today it is the oldest burial ground. There where very few burial grounds prior to 1750. Most of them have been shut down to build roads and other things like parks.
It not only honors the lost, but it makes war seem so much more bleak and saddening. Maya Lin did a great job designing a memorial for the Vietnam War. It was functional, simplistic, and made us really think deep down about what war can do to people, not just those killed but the many of us affected
The novel Five Days at Memorial by Sheri Fink gives an inside view of what happened at Memorial Hospital during Hurricane Katrina (2005); a disaster inside of a disaster. The lack of preparedness or ethical decision making is quite disappointing, considering Memorial hospital is located in New Orleans, Louisiana. New Orleans is well below sea level, and experiences frequent hurricanes and flooding. Memorial hospital itself had little to no plan for evacuating patients once the storm hit. Without power, many of the patients, especially those who were ventilator dependent, became at risk of death.
“Mammita’s Garden Cove” by Cyril Dabydeen tells the story of a protagonist Max, who demonstrates nostalgia of an island he once lived on whilst living in urban, downtown Toronto. Relying on the use of, repetition, diction, and juxtaposition Dabydeen successfully conveys the emotion of mild regret and ultimately complex attitude towards place held by the protagonist. Permeated throughout the excerpt are examples of repetition; emphasizing the despairing nature of the protagonist as he searches for a job. Dabydeen highlights the way in which Max’s sullen attitude towards his current place of residence. The author repeats the image of feet kicking into the ground on two separate occasions, “feet kicking hard ground” (line 4) and “His heels pressed
Missouri Veterans Commission is a state agency that provides veteran benefits. It was established by the Missouri Statute. The state of Missouri is one of the top states for veteran benefits. The size of a hierarchy varies depending on a variety of things.
Green Acres Cemetery really surprised me with all of the different types of memorials they had there. While most of the grave markers were traditional-looking headstones, there were also several giant and elaborate memorials. There was one memorial in particular towards the back of the cemetery that had a concrete divider around the whole plot and it contained a whole family. There was a very large memorial in a tombstone shape at the head of the plot that had a picture of the husband, wife, and daughter-who was holding her puppy, and one single date of death for all three of them engraved into it. The memorial had steps coming down from it, and a bench attached as well and all appeared to be made out
Thank you for putting your life out there for us. Thank you for protecting people's families. And thank you for putting this country first. Veterans day is for people like you to be thanked for all you guys did for this country. But people like you deserve more.
In conclusion, we should always remember those who fought and are still fighting for us not just one time a year but everyday. We should be thankful for a veteran, because we have freedom to do the things we love where some countries do not get that privilege. We can hunt , fish, play basketball and see our friends and family. Some countries don’t get the freedom that we do.
I have a few people in my family that are veterans. Their service means alot to me. I admire them for their for their bravery and loyalty to their country. They inspire me in many ways such as to be brave even if the situation requires only a small act of bravery, and to speak out against something I know is wrong. To me veterans need to be honored every day for their service.
According to president obama, all countries should come together to honor our fellow veterans on Memorial Day. I strongly agree with this claim, regardless of what had happened 50 years ago between these countries; it is best to forgive and move on because each and every country knew what they were signing up for and the consequences that they would have to face. However, these countries are always at war, so coming together once a year to show our gratitude to the veterans that fought for their individual country is the best way to honor them. Thus , soldiers did what they thought was protecting their own country and risked their lives to protect their people, so each country can afford to sacrifice one day on their behalf. Memorial day is
Today, in rural areas. Relatives celebrate the Day of the Dead by gathering in cemeteries to decorate family graves. They decorate them with candles and flowers. They also share family stories about loved ones that have died. It’s very nice to know that their celebrating their family members that died and that they all gathered together to have family time.
so I feel that families in the war thought of this has their loved ones are so far away. It hurts them that they cannot see them which exemplifies a mood of hope of seeing them
I couldn’t imagine the feeling of hearing that the my loved one was KIA or is MIA. The unknowns that lay at Arlington National Cemetery gave it all for their country, and for that they deserve this honor. Laying the wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown
How do you feel knowing that there are hundreds of thousands of unrecognised soldiers out there that have fought for our country and have never came home and also how many are still lying there in the western front today? I am here today to share with you why we must replace our brave and forgotten soldiers memorial with a much bigger and better cenotaph and much better gardens filled with poppies and rosemary plants and other vibrant plants to make their garden stand out so visitors and our own staff and students will notice it and take a minute to stand and remember our brave and innocent soldiers. Here are my reasons why, 1st of all average and everyday Australians and so called black diggers gave up their life, career and family to protect
I always thought that it was kind of funny that we remembered him with dog tags that he probably didn 't know he had and a flag that was once laid on his coffin and that was handed to my crying grandma from the military men who folded the flag. When I think about his life, I think how lucky he was. He didn 't have to go to Korea, instead, he got married, had kids, opened a store and taught guys just joining the military about the military. He did so much is his lifetime and yet the last ten years of his life that was all forgotten, all the stories, the moments, the memories all gone. I hope that later in my life I can still look at his tags and remember the stories, moments and the memories
