To begin with, I wanted to give a short summary of the three assigned reading assignments for this week which included: “Making System Of Privilege Visible” by Stephanie M. Wildman with Adrienne D. Davis, “ Shifting The Center” by Arturo Madrid, and “Pedagogy Of The Oppressed” by Paulo Freire. In “Making System Of Privilege Visible” by Stephanie M. Wildman with Adrienne D. Davis it mostly talks about a “system of privilege”, and oppression. The “system of privilege” is the dominant race or ethnicity in a society, or having certain unearned advantages over different groups because of one or more social identities. They also all agreed on that instead of having to violently fight for what is right there are other ways that you are able to fight for what is right. The first article in which we see this main idea would be “Making System Of Privilege Visible” by Stephanie M. Wildman with Adrienne D. Davis. In this article, we talk about the normalization of privilege and choosing whether to struggle against oppression. “This normalization of privilege means the members are judged, and succeed or fail, measured against the characteristics that are held by those privileged” (Wildman). This means that whoever is not privileged is always measured against those who are. No matter in what circumstance the unprivileged will always be farther away than those who are privileged. At the same time, choosing whether to struggle against oppression you have to decide if you want to use your privilege to help others. Some may decide they don't want to which will make life harder on the oppressed, while others will choose to indeed help them which will make their life easier. “ Shifting The Center” by Arturo Madrid states,“Shifting the center asks you to think more inclusively” (Madrid). This means that we should no longer prioritize dominance and power. What we need to do is try is to be “fully human”. When we are oppressing others we are not letting them be fully human. If we do not let them be human we are not letting ourselves be human as well. Both of these relationships are found in the “Pedagogy of the Oppressed” by Paulo Freire. Freire believed that for us to be able to not live a society of the privileged and the oppressed we have to take in mind what both Stephanie M. Wildman with Adrienne D. Davis, and Arturo Madrid talked about, but also have critical consciousness. To be able to have critical consciousness we have to
