With descriptions of their mundane school grounds, unsightly home lives, and the rough and tough appearance of the boys, Joshua Davis paints vivid portraits of the main characters of his novel. While thumbing through the novel, I could feel the fear associated with the constant threat of deportation, and the anxiety of wondering if their families were going to be there when they returned home. When it was revealed that the boys had succeeded in winning the competition, I felt a physical wave of happiness and relief wash over me. This kind imagery and ability to translate emotion is essential in telling a story such as this, because a person truly needs to be able to place themselves in the shoes of those boys to be able to fully appreciate
Francie is heartbroken after finding out that her lover, Lee Rhynor, returned back to his home after war and had married another girl, despite his previous confession of love for Francie. Based on the evidence in Patrick Shanley’s play, Doubt: A Parable, I conclude Father Flynn is guilty because of his desire to help boys and his ability to hide his past. Although he is suppose to be teaching the boys about basketball, He tends to boys how to be men. When talking to the boys Father Flynn says, “I’ve noticed several of you guys have dirty nails.
We have come a long way from the dark times when we, americans, exercised slavery throughout the country. From when african americans fought for their freedom. From when they pursued through the rigorous implications caused by white men. From when public areas were segregated between white and black races. Today we have grown exponentially to become a country that is so diverse we can be proud of it, yet, though on paper we are all equal, are we in the eyes of society?
UNDERSTANDING PLOT AND CHARACTER (K/U) 1. Describe the personalities of the three main characters Ulysses Everett McGill, Pete Hog wallop and Delmar O’ Donell. (3 point) Ulysses Everett McGill is a clever, quick-witted person and fast-talking. He’s good at coming up with good plans when things go wrong. He’s disdainful when it comes to religion, for example: when Delmar and Pete were baptized, they said all their sins have been pardoned, Ulysses Everett said that the priest is lying to them.

“The Hero’s Journey” is term for a narrative style that was identified by scholar Joseph Campbell. The narrative pattern would depict a character’s heroic journey, and categorize the character’s experiences into three large sections: departure, which contained the hero’s call to adventure, fulfillment, which consisted of the hero’s initiation, trials, and transformation, and finally the return. The novel The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan investigates the relationship and actions of four Chinese women and their daughters. The character Lindo Jong’s youth in China exemplifies the three part heroic journey in how she leaves the familiar aspects in her life, faces trials in the home of her betrothed, ..... Departure:
Although his character is static and does not play a big role, it is important to reconsider his place in the story. Associate Professor Anthony Ellis from Western Michigan University brings out the argument, which describes Ellie’s role in the story as very crucial compared to what scholars have thought before (Ellis 57). In fact, he states that Ellie is also the boy named Eddie. In the story, Eddie enters the restaurant and jerks around in “semicircles” turning back looking at the place to find someone interesting (Oates 143). Ellis believes that Eddie’s actions were not because of sexual desire but rather to “prevent Connie from looking at him to closely and directly, especially there inside the “bright-lit” restaurant” (Ellis 56).
