Malala was born on July 12th, 1997 in Mingora, Pakistan. She was named after a Pastun heroine by her father, Ziauddin Yousafazia. Her father ran a school in Pakistan and was a passionate advocate for education in Pakistan and also outspoke against efforts to restrict education and stop girls from going to school by the Taliban since Pakistan has the height number of children out of school in the world. Much like her father, Malala had a passion for education, learning, and going to school. In 2009, Malala began writing a blog for BBC, as Taliban military intensified, about her fears that her school would be attacked. In response to her growing popularity, on October 9th, 2012 when Malala and her friends were traveling home from school on the bus, a masked gunman entered the bus and asked for Malala there she was shot once through her head and her friends were also injured. Malala was moved to Birmingham, UK for hospital treatment since she was in critical condition and was discharged in January 2013. This attack lead to protests in Pakistan and over 2 million people signed right to education petition and as a result the National Assembly ratified Pakistan's first Right To Free and Compulsory Education Bill. In consequence, Malala became a global advocate for girls who are denied their right of education. In 2013, Malala and her father created the Malala fund to bring awareness to this issue and empower girls to raise their voices. Due to her hard work, Malala accepted the Nobel Peace Price on December 10th, 2014 and contributed her entire prize money to finance the creation of a school for girls in Pakistan (The Malala
