Emotional Disorder- Male Vignette Looking at the two case studies presented for this paper, this author took a closer look at the case study that focused on a seven-year-old Somali-American boy named Nadif. Currently, Nadif does not attend regular school but is homeschooled with his mother as his teacher. Nadif and his family came (immigrated) to the United States from the war-torn country of Somalia when he was just four-years-old. Before coming to the United States, Nadif and his family lived within a refugee camp in Somalia. Before living at the refugee camp, Nadif had a regular appetite and slept pretty normal for a child his age, however, his parents began to become worried about him when they moved into the camp. Nadif began to have nightmares where it would frighten him awake. The nightmares were either him being torn from his family or that he was lost. Even Nadif eating habits was beginning to get affected, he constantly had stomachaches, loss of appetite. When a child is suffering from PTSD, it is reported that they may experience memory loss, specifically about the traumatic event, difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep or restless sleep, nightmares, fears, feelings of anxiousness are just a few symptoms associated with PTSD (PTSD Symptoms in Children Age Six and Younger, 2015). In Nadif’s case, it was reported that he constantly has nightmares and trouble sleeping, he also has nervous or anxious feelings when he is not around his family, especially his mother. It was also reported that Nadif does not have much memory of his time in Somalia or at the refugee camp. These symptoms tend to match the symptoms criteria of
