The first book I read this summer was the Man in the High Castle is a book written by Phillip Dicks. The book is a novel based of the paradox that the result of World War 2 was not a ally victory. Before I say what is different due to the war let me elaborate on the idea of the War won by the Japanese and Germans. In this altered history the United States president Franklin Roosevelt is assassinated in his first term as president. Due to FDR having been killed and his lack of leadership after his death the war would be finished by 1947 and the Axis are victorious. The actual story that is the main premise of the book takes place in 1962. The story takes place in America, which is now split in half. Each character provides a different perspective on the setting that is this post war layout. The main and first character you read about is a man named Robert Childan. Robert is an American and owns his own store in San Francisco. Robert was alive during the time of the war and has seen the complete change in history due to the lose of the war. Over the course of being a subject to Japanese rein he starts to develope a level of hatred towards the Japanese and though he never acted in physical violence, his hate never leaves his mind. Another character in the book is Rudolf Wegener who despite being in the German navy despises the Nazi party. He moves to San Francisco under a secret alliance and plans a incident that will allow for an attack on Japan. Now there are many other characters but you can read the book to find out about them. There are many who you can predict based off knowledge of what the world would be like under Japanese and Nazi rule. THere are still Jews however they are in hiding and often live normal lives but under a different identity to keep their religion
