Music has and will always be an important part of me, because I identify with many musicians and the messages they convey in their songs. When I was growing up, Hip Hop was the order of the day but time has brought other music genres. Music has undergone many changes over the last few decades from its production to presentation to the audience. Recently, I have graduated from merely listening music to its meaning and the reason why the artist produced it. I have discovered that artists deliver different messages through music ranging from their personal experiences to societal issues. The legendary rap artist Tupac Shakur had inspiring messages in some of his songs such as Changes that addressed the socio-economic state of his time and Dear Mama that appreciated his mother and all the women out there. The song can You See Me Now by Julia Volkova and Lena Katina delivers a message of self love and personal uniqueness. The late Michael Jackson`s songs, Man In the Mirror and We Are the World have great messages for all mankind. In the Man in The Mirror, Michael contends that change starts with a single person and spreads to the world. The song We Are The World is a unifying factor for mankind to come together to make the world a better place and help those who are suffering. This song has been used to mobilize people to help others in times of need especially during natural calamities such as tsunamis and earthquakes. I love music because it expresses what mere words cannot express in a unique and acceptable manner. Music serves as my uplifting agent every time I feel low and need something to cheer me up. Music is in all aspects of life and without it, life would be boring. Every morning the alarm wakes me up with my favorite tune and I take a shower listening to some good music and hence setting the pace for the day. I admire artists like Inez Jasper and Jessie J who use music to communicate messages of encouragement and empowerment to people. I also like artists like Katy Perry who preach about self-love and self-acceptance as many people in our society today care so much about what others think of
