Dee Ann Sifuentes (picture unavailable) of Sidney Sugars has been an employee since September of 1977. When Sifuentes first started at the factory, she began on the beet end of things. Her duties included overseeing the beets come in as well as extracting the juice. “When I first started working for Sidney Sugars 38 years ago, there were only 7-8 women that worked here. Now there are 61 female employees at the factory out of the 251 that are employed here,” said Dee Ann when asked about changes in the factory over the past 30 years.

In many ways we related, our parents were divorced, w bth had not so great dads, we both were close to our families. This was one thing I couldn’t relate with her on, something I hadn experience with. Finally, I realized the only thing I really can do is listen. This recollection makes me understand nothing I say will be right.
But, that was never the case. There have been many nights I cried myself asleep. I felt alone and scared. Even though I did not live with her, I must say she was a great provider. I never wanted for much of anything.
Tension slowly grew between us as we continued being together 24/7. I would try to walk alone to class, but she would want to join. I would try to do things alone, but found that she always wanted to tag along. I felt bad saying no so I would just allow it to happen.

She just looked at me weird if I were some mad man about to do something crazy. What she would always say to me is just wait a few more years your body will start to develop and grow since I was only ten years if age. I didn 't want to wait a few more years that 's a very long time to me since I wasn 't really that patient in life. Sometimes I would sneak in my dad 's weight room where he worksout and start to mess with the weights putting them on bars to see if I can do some bench press 's. But since I was little and didn 't know how to use them I just stuck to doing push-ups since my dad told me if I want to get really big is to do push ups and eat a lot.
and I was oblivious to what was going on. My mom is a nurse and worked overnight shifts at the hospital. So from time to time, she was not in the greatest mood when she got home due to lack of sleep. My mom worked a lot of overtime hours to support our family as my dad’s business did not always provide for us.
