What is courage? John Wayne said that “Courage is being scared to death but saddling up anyway.” The word courageous does not accurately describe United States Navy Seal Marcus Luttrell. I have admired Marcus’ life for a number of years. His life and experiences help keep me motivated during challenging times. Many of you may have heard of or seen the movie, Lone Survivor. Lone Survivor is a true account of an extreme gun battle, where Marcus Luttrell was the only survivor from the team during a military operation.
From an early age, Marcus Luttrell wanted to be a Navy Seal. At age fourteen, Marcus began training to become one. Early morning workouts, extreme physical and mental trials were engrained in his soul from day one. Particularly, I envision him drawing that line in the sand and crawling inch by inch towards his goal. Survival. I always think, if Marcus can go through those impossible set of circumstances, the challenge that I am currently facing do not even register on the scale of the challenges he went through. Having the will to survive and setting those small goals to bring you out of a situation are paramount.
Marcus Luttrell is a Navy Seal, an Author, and a public speaker. He is the epitome of motivation. His life and story can make a positive impact on each and every one of us. His trials and tribulations are certainly a source of motivation for me. Marcus said this in his book, Lone Survivor, “I will never quit. My nation expects me to be physically harder and mentally stronger than my enemies. If knocked down I will get back up, every time.
