Maria Mitchell was born in Nantucket, Massachusetts on August 1, 1818, and was one of nine brothers and sisters. Her family were Quakers and believed in equal education for men and women. Maria attended local schools and was tutored by her father. He taught her how to use a telescope when she was twelve, and she helped him calculate exactly when the annual solar eclipse would be. By the time she was fourteen, she was writing directions for sailors’ whaling trips.
From the age of five, nothing could stop Catherine Granado from playing hockey. As she grew, so did her love and skill for the sport; so much so that she skated her way to the Olympics in 1998 and brought home the Gold Medal. Cammi Granado attended Province College, where she played on the school’s hockey team. She became the best player on the team, leading them to two national championships and being the European Civil Aviation Conference player of the year for three consecutive years. In 1990, she was accepted onto the first United States national women’s hockey team, and became that team’s leading goal scorer with thirty goals in twenty-five games.

She did so many tremendous things, influenced so many people, and made such a big impact in the music industry. Selena mainly focused on Mexican music when she first started. She did not always stick to her Mexican culture and Mexican music though. This is the story and background of Selena Quintanilla-Perez.
Even though prison and its tortures eventually deteriorate her health and resolve, she only agrees to leave prison when she is officially released. On the other hand, Mate longs to accept the pardon since she is already suffering from hunger, depression, and separation from her newborn daughter. However, due to her loyalty to her sister, she lets Minerva talk her into staying with her. Mate claims to stay because Minerva tells her to do what she thinks is right. She still could have taken the pardon without Minerva, but her decision to stay shows that Mate is also devoted to her country.
Today I interviewed my Tia Maria, she is my mothers aunt who is 89 years old. Maria lives in old San Juan Puerto Rico with her daughter Suky. She has lived on the island all of her life. I had the privilege to interview her and learn some great facts about her life and listen to a couple of great stories about her good old days on the shorelines of Puerto Rico. I was pretty impressed on how they lived and how much they depended on the land for substance and gain.
The famous Tejano Queen, Selena Quintanilla-Perez, was born in Houston, Texas on April 16, 1971. Selena was involved in the music industry from a very early age because her family was struggling to find a way to get by. Selena started off singing with her siblings, calling themselves, “Selena y Los Dinos”. Quickly Selena’s music career started taking off and soon enough Selena became known all over the United States as the Queen of Tejano music. Selena was murdered on March 31, 1995 by one of the members of her fan club.
Selena Quintanilla-Perez was a beloved Hispanic- American singer-songwriter, model, spokesperson, actress, and fashion designer. She was born on April 16, 1971 in Lake Jackson, Texas to her parents, Marcella and Abraham Jr. Quintanilla. Selena was very popular during the 1980s and 1990s and her style of music includes: tejano cumbia, tejano, ranchera, R&B, marichi and pop. Her family’s musical background influenced her career and impacted her style of music. Throughout her career Selena has had many hits and has won many awards.
Mary Jemison was one of many white captives who lived a full and happy life with her indian captors. The day Mary Jemison was taken by the indians started out like any other day. A friend of her father’s needed to borrow a horse in order to carry a bag of grain to the Jemison’s house. The friend had also taken a gun with him in case he saw any game fit for killing. The Jemison’s heard gunshots coming from nearby outside and quickly became alarmed.
Selena's Musical Career Selena Quintanilla Pérez was a famous Mexican-American singer. Selena had an amazing career in the making. Selena sang Disco, Tejano, and Technocumbia music whenever ever she performed. Selena had it rough growing up as a singer because she was a girl.
Saint paper: Our lady of Guadalupe The Virgin of Guadalupe is the patron saint of Mexico. On December 9, 1531, the Lady of Guadalupe appeared to an Aztec Indian whom had just converted to the Catholic Faith, his name is Juan Diego. Mary asked Juan Diego to tell the Bishop to build a church in the location she needed it to be built. Juan Diego carried the news to the Bishop, but the Bishop wanted proof that the message he was brought was directly from the Lady of Guadalupe herself. Juan Diego went back and told her what the Bishop had asked for.
Mate described him as the “sweetest man's face"(141) she had ever seen, and she thought to herself, “I didn't know what he was talking about, but I knew right then and there, I wanted to be a part of whatever he was.” (142) Mate has always been a romantic so she thought by joining the revolution she could be with Palomino. The legend of the Virgen de Guadalupe has become a common symbol of hope to many incoming immigrants of Latin American countries. Due to U.S. governmental and economic interventions in Latin American countries, it has caused many people to migrate as refuges and flee unstable environments. These mass migrations have been followed by torturous trails and stories that many times end in death or abuse, however, other times it has allowed refugees to move away and live stable lives in the U.S. However, once in the U.S., these immigrants are faced with discriminatory policy based on false accusations that makes their lives unsafe and unprotected. Therefore, Latinx religious faith becomes a strong component of community for these groups.

The Victory Lap, a Story of Redemption In “The Victory Lap,” by George Saunders, the author takes us deep into the scene of an attempted kidnapping and rape in an ordinary suburban neighborhood. Much of the emotional power in the story comes from two distinct sources. The first is the setting in an innocent suburbia which is much like the quiet ordinary setting of “The Lottery,” by Shirley Jackson. The second is the author’s use of POV, telling most of the story through the inner dialogue of each of the three characters; the girl, the boy, and the would-be rapist.
