The use and the sale of drugs have been glorified in many songs and most of them give a message of acceptance towards drugs being a part of everyone’s life. As an example, Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa have a song called Young, Wild and Free were their target population are young teenagers to young adults. The song sends a message to young people about smoking marijuana and drinking in early adulthood is part of their lifestyle and by doing so, they are able to have fun and freedom. “So what we get drunk? So what we smoke weed? We’re just having fun. We don’t care who sees. So what we go out? For example, the article, “Exposure to Marijuana in Popular Music among Adolescents and Young adults” by Brian A. Primack is one of them. The article purpose and focus was to do a research to determine if being exposed to marijuana in popular music was associated with the use among adolescents. The study was a cross-sectional study and was conducted in a high school and the population was students from 9-12th grade. They proceeded to do surveys among the students referring to the music they liked or heard and their use of marijuana if they ever have tried it within a 30 day period. The results were that more than half of the students were exposed to an early age to marijuana and their first exposure to it was with music and friends. The study concluded that “This study supports an independent association between exposure to cannabis in popular music and early cannabis use among urban American adolescents.”(Brian A. The study also gives the background of marijuana and how it has become more popular in the U.S.A among high school teens. The study also gives more examples of research that has been previously done to support their own argument. Other variables that the study used and I thought they were helpful for understanding the correlation was what they used a number of social-demographics characteristics that also linked marijuana. The study gave me a clear picture and an understanding of the background that marijuana had and has an impact on teenagers. What makes a good study overall is the fact that the purpose was clearly identified and was with enough detail.
