The Marika-Alderton house is based around the fact that Aboriginal tribes built huts with long sheets of bark around a bush pole frame. It is a direct reference from the primitive hut that native tribes used to build. To the south and west of the house are mangroves, while in front sits the ocean. Murcott is very much interested in the landscape and designing his buildings in harmony with the site therefore Murcott avoided air-conditioning since it was not native to the area, nor beneficial to his design.
