Immanuel Kant - "Look closely. The beautiful may be small". Growing up, I never really had a lot of what people my age would have because of my family's financial struggle. Despite this, I feel like it has taught me to appreciate the little things in our life since one day, they will most likely disappear. When we did have money to spare, my parents made sure that I and my sister were happy and because of this, I discovered that I enjoyed playing video games. Today, I still enjoy playing video games however I try to balance my personal life with my school life so I can pursue my dream career of being a marine biologist. My interest in marine biology came from my love for discovery which was originally an interest in space. However, going to environmental science during my freshmen year of high school, I realized that I'd be better off staying on Earth and learning about the things here while still being able to help the environment. …show more content…
This dilemma was that there was little I could do to pursue my career since there isn't much to do relating to marine biology in Lawndale or nearby areas. However, it all changed at the end of the first semester of my junior year when we were told about something called "Dual-Enrollment" which offered a variety of courses from El Camino college for us to take as high school students. While there wasn't a marine biology course, I wanted to see if the ocean was really where I wanted to learn so I tried to take oceanography but all of the courses were full. This ultimately led me to take my first college-level Earth science course which was geography. Although I struggled at the start I enjoyed my experience in Dual-Enrollment I took two courses in my summer semester which were political science and economics. Similar to geography, these two courses gave me a lot of trouble since these are subjects that are new to
