He has two sisters and a brother. His father Harry Leykis was a union leader at the New York Post. At a point, he moved to Long Island with his family. He went to Newfield High School and graduated at the age of 16. Due to a financial issue, he dropped out of school.
I Jenan Rizk, try my best everyday to make a difference in the world. I always try to help people who need it, whether it be physically or mentally. I also love to do volunteer work because I love the feeling of doing selfish acts. The joy and excitement I get after I finish is what keeps me going. When he decided to still educate himself he did not go to school he had to learn everything by himself just to help his parents make money. In Thomas J. Gerschick’s chapter, he argues that a person’s appearance can be measured on a scale with most normative on one end and least normative on the other. People who are most normative, or most attractive, are treated the best by society and therefore, are more successful. People who are least normative-looking (i.e people with disabilities) are seen as unattractive, invisible, and asexual (Gerschick, pg. 76). Additionally, Gerschick argues that the medical community has furthered stereotypes about people with disabilities being asexual by failing to discuss sex with patients (Gerschick, pg. 78). He goes through famine, having to drop out of school because his family couldn’t afford to send him and having people tell him that his idea was never going to work. These hard times caused him to need to work and study harder. He made sure that he went to the library and he helped his father with the crops so that they could have more food. After he did poorly on his exams he decided that he would work really hard. “I’d study and become the best student at this village school, then take my JCE exam and impress them all.”

His father didn 't want him to become an artist, so after high school, his dad sent him to the Haarlem School of architecture and Decorative Arts, where he intended Escher to become an architect. M. C. Esther 's grades were never good in school, he even failed the second grade and many subjects at the Haarlem School of Architecture and Decorative Arts, but he had a real gift for art. After failing his finals at Haarlem, Escher defied his dad and became an artist.
Getting out of the lower class becomes unattainable to him as he says, “I could see the road ahead of me. I was poor, and I was going to stay poor” (Bukowski, 2008, p.192). While he initially fantasised of becoming a stardom, he lowers his expectations and desires to be a dishwasher as he notes that he had no interest in anything and no way to escape (Bukowski, 2008, p.174). He is reduced to a shell of his dreamer self and believe to be a failure for the entire life. His thoughts of despair and desperations are seemed to be remedied by his escapism approach.
