These activists helped shape the course of black history thanks to their passion and dedication to uplift the rights of the black community. Their names should be recognized and remembered by all black citizens.
During the late 1950’s and through the early 1970’s the Civil Rights Movement was coming into effect. There were many controversial events going on during this time period. Martin Luther King Jr had a great perspective on civil rights, while Malcolm X did also. These two men are known as some of the greatest men in history known for their speeches and what they took part in during the Civil Rights Movement.
He stood against economic and racial injustice, abhorring the violence it engendered. However, he encouraged change though a peculiar method of leadership. Unlike other famous black activists of the time, Benjamin Mays and Malcom X, King’s goal involved fusing black culture and white culture together in a way that emphasized the best portions of each.
During the early 1960s, when the civil rights movement was at its zenith, there was a resurgence of distinguished activists with similar goals, but differing methods on how to actualize those goals and solve the pressing issues that plagued black Americans. Martin Luther King Jr. was a prominent leader in the black community who drew heavily from his religious background to preach peaceful protests and encourage others to achieve equality and justice through nonviolent resistance. Radical opposition would hinder progress and ultimately hurt the cause. Malcolm X was equal in stature, but his views conflicted with Martin Luther King Jr.
Influential Person Research Paper Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was an influential figure because of his contributions to the Civil Rights Movement despite the challenges he faced such as constantly being arrested and his house being bombed. One of the first accomplishments of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was his founding and presidency of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC). The SCLC is a civil rights group that focused on desegregating the south. The group's first focus was on desegregating the bus system, but they eventually moved on to greater things such as registering blacks to vote and organizing peaceful protests. This proves that King was a successful civil rights leader, even though he struggled against racists whites in power that would try to oppress him and his group.
He organized movements such as boycotts and rallies. Although all of these were peaceful, he got in trouble with the law several times. This never stopped him, however, as he would always tell people about how he had a dream, talking about desegregation. Martin Luther King always believed in true, constitutional equality and justice. In his famous “I Have a Dream” speech, he said, “I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: we hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.”
Sometimes, I sit and wonder what life would be like if we hadn’t been influenced by the wise guidance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Would we be in the middle of an all out war right now? What would’ve happened if we hadn’t had his amazing influence to stand up for the equal rights of all people? We will never know because of his power and influence over civil rights. Michael Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929. He was born a middle child Michael King Sr. and Alberta Williams King.
In the context of racial discrimination, many African Americans felt as if the government never really assisted them in gaining their rights. The prejudice of African Americans still lingered even after many attempts to settle disagreements. In the case of Plessy v. Ferguson, Homer Plessy denied to sit in an all black car and remained in a white only car; the outcome of this case upheld the ideas of racial segregation and proved that when groups are separated they will never be treated the same. It seemed in both eras of civil rights activism that the conservative minds of Americans could not be washed away. African American leaders in the 1890s-1920s are different from leaders during the 1950s-1960s in their use of violence and peace and they are similar by
something with the degree. “On December 10, 1964, he received the Nobel Peace Prize. The youngest recipient ever, and second African American” (Smith 44). This shows that Martin Luther King was very successful in helping obtain rights for African Americans. This also shows Mr. Kings influence on the Civil Rights movement was nothing short of extraordinary.
Malcolm X When thinking of persuasive leaders, one thinks of characters such as Martin Luther King Jr. He promoted his ideas with speeches persuading audiences through morals; however, not all leaders show the same morals in persuading the masses. I, Malcolm X, was an activist with ideals of justice for the people, contradicting the leaders of my time.
The leader I chose was Martin Luther King. He fought for equal rights. The I have a dream Speech reaffirmed the commitment to non-violent resistance, standing one’s ground for one’s God-given rights, the basis for human dignity and strength for all, regardless of race, religion, or color. Martin Luther King displays charismatic leadership. Charismatic leadership has generally been defined in terms of the effects the leader has on followers, or in terms of the relationship between leaders and followers.
This was basically a significant aspect of his struggle and he espoused it in every possible way. It is important to understand the general positioning of the issues that affected the society at the time. Moreover, since there was a significant assessment of the realities of the time, it became more important for the struggle to assess the realities of the Nation’s segregation policies. Some of the obstacles that the Civil rights movement faced included the Jim Crow laws of the South and some parts of the center and east, including Washington D.C. The civil rights movement also faced significant extremism from White supremacists led by the Khu Klux Klan as well as the continued repression by government in various ways.
Martin Luther King’s leadership and his beliefs had a powerful impact on the Civil Rights Movement. Their methods of peaceful resistance and civil disobedience to achieve integration, reflected his teachings. These methods later proved to be successful in achieving the goal integration of minorities when the Civil Rights Act was passed in 1964. Demonstrations like the bus boycotts and non-violent marches were just some of the acts the led to this result.
Did Martin Luther King impact the American society? In the now days, all creatures have their rights even animals. Black Americans during 20th century did not have any of their rights. But Martin Luther King fought to regain everyone stolen rights.
Dr.King a Great Leader When you think of a good leader you think of someone who can influence and lead people. Good leaders do the right things for the people their leading and fight for whats right. Dr.Martin Luther King Jr. is a good leader because he fought for equal rights, he was a educated pastor, and he lead a movement that left behind a legacy that will be remembered forever. He played a very big role in ending segregation of African Americans in the U.S.(Biography, 2018).
