In 1963, King gave his iconic “I Have a Dream” speech where he emphasized the necessity for change and the potential for hope in American society. In his speech, King creates an emotional appeal to his audience, saying “I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where theywill not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character” which would make his speech more powerful than what it already was. Also, Martin Luther King got shot on April 4, 1968, in a hotel at 6:05 when he was standing outside on the balcony of his hotel room. James Earl Ray was the guy that shot him, and he did it because he thought that the colored should not have any rights and he did not like that he was making change in the US. He was an inspiration to all citizens because he voiced his opinions about African American rights. Although he was an inspiration, he did not have faith in himself or his friends who were helping him. He assumed that he could not persuade the president to agree to sign the Voting Rights Act.
