Marxist Criticism In The Twilight Zone

200 Words1 Pages
In this episode of The Twilight Zone, a man named Henry Bemis cannot stop reading despite everyone’s best efforts to stop him. A Marxist criticism could be done for this episode since the boss talks down to him and orders him around unfairly simply because he is of higher rank. A gender criticism could also apply since his wife is the one who orders him around and the roles are reversed in a way, but Bemis remains the one who works. This episode plays on people’s fear of the H bomb causing complete destruction during the cold war in 1959. The villains are the stereotypical boss, and the mean, controlling wife. Henry is the anti-hero because he has negative characteristics. Additionally, The H bomb symbolizes fear during the nuclear warfare.
