Mary Oliver is a contemporary poet whose work spans over 30 years. She gives readers the opportunity to think more abstractly. She is a poet who puts an emphasis on imagination, to allow oneself to see the beauty of nature within the world, despite the era we might live in. Americans living in the 21st century have an abundance use of technology allowing people to only focus on social media, never stopping to appreciate the beauty of nature or the beauty of life. Mary Oliver’s is a poet of knowledge; who’s transcendental view of the natural world allowing people to think beyond the means of life. Despite her refusal to be viewed in a particular sociopolitical stand point, Oliver still remains one of “America’s finest natures poets” (6). Oliver should continue to be thought at college level because of her complex views she has of nature associating it with life, her poetic technique and complex themes, is what allows her to be relevant in this day and age. In today’s era, many young adults are focused on social media, uploading a picture on Instagram and how many people liked the picture. Through her poems Oliver sees the beauty of nature, often referring it to beauty of life. She suggests that people need to be more open to experiences by living in the moment (Riley,2). Oliver believes that “the natural world instructs people in how to live, how to see, and how to experience their lives fully” (Riley, 2). Oliver’s belief that coming together with nature and merging with the non-human releases the self-multiplicity, fluidity and ultimate joy’ is giving people the opportunity to see the world in all its beauty to learn how to truly appreciate
