Mason Cooley's Use Of Suspense In Macbeth

Mason Cooley once wrote, “Suspense combines curiosity with fear and pulls them up a rising slope.” In Shakespeare’s Macbeth, suspense is used everywhere to keep the audience on the edge. Macbeth is a man who fights for the king of Scotland, King Duncan, and meets three witches who tell him things that will happen in his future. Before meeting the witches he kills someone to defend Scotland, when Macbeth meets the witches they tell Macbeth that he will soon be Thane of Cawdor, then the king of Scotland. This is seen in the quote, “All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Glamis! All hail to Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Cawdor.”(Shakespeare311) This shows suspense because the witches called Macbeth the Thane of Glamis which is what his title
