Aliya Myers Children's Literature Mrs. Lisk 01-23-23 Compare a Book to a Movie Matilda is a famous movie and also a popular book, the movie was released in 1996. The book Matilda was published in 1988. Matilda is about a young girl who has super powers and she is forced to deal with her rude parents. She gets sent to this school where the principal Ms. Trunchbull, the principal, is super mean to her and bullies her. Her teacher is super nice and it’s Ms. Trunchbull’s step-daughter. Matilda uses her powers against the principal and becomes super close with her teacher. Then towards the end of the story, Ms. Honey her teacher ends up adopting her and her parents move away. Wormwood rips up Matilda's book “The Red Pony” he rips that up in the book, but in the movie it is “Moby Dick”. Some similarities are the settings of both the book and the movie. They both for the most part take place in the Wormwood house, the library, the school, Ms. Honeys cottage and also at Ms. Trunchable’s home. Matilda’s parents are very self-centered and verbally abusive in both stories. In both the story and the movie, Matilda uses her powers to play tricks on her parents to get back at them in a way. Mr. Wormwood was rude to everyone he met and also scammed everyone. He got to the point where the FBI was secretly watching him and seeing what he did in his day to day life without him knowing. Whereas Matilda was always nice to people and caring and didn’t have a mean bone in her body. She always treated everyone fairly, even though she wasn’t treated fairly. I think she dealt with her situation very well for how young she was and by the time she was at the age of three she knew how to take care of herself and everything. No one should have to go through what Matilda went through. I hope that it opened peoples eyes and kind of got an understanding of what it’s like for a child to go through something like
