Maximum Ride In James Patterson’s novel, The Final Warning, there are a group of kids who are not like the rest of the world. These kids have been genetically altered to look like humans, but have the ability to fly in the same manner that birds do. The kids: Maximum, Fang, Gazzy, Angel, Nudge, and Iggy, have been tested on and have been held captive for a sliver of their lifetime. In this particular novel, Patterson is using the flock as a literary tool in the fight against global warning. Patterson is an activist in the fight against global warming and is still continuing to fight this major problem that faces the earth. He uses maximum ride as a gateway to show us what is happening at the polar ice caps and who is going to be able to help fix this problem. In the novel Maximum and her flock have been sent on an exploration mission to Antarctica to view the changes. While they are on anartica they see the natural beauty that has still been left untouched by man and come to a realization of the danger the people are going to encounter. One of the scenes in Antarctica reveal them flying over the ice cap and exploring the new found territory and thinking of how all this would change just because of the earth warming up. This scene is particularly important because it shows maximum an entire new perspective on what is happening to the planet and she wants to be able to do something about it. In one of the last major scenes of the novel they are back in D.C. but this time trying to fix a major problem. Maximum and the flock have a discussion with the senate about the growing problem on global warming and how it will effect the entire earth if they do not start acting on it as soon as possible. They are able to have enough facts and Persausive combacks to convince the senate to begin working on a plan to stop global warming for good. This is extremely significant because Patterson is showing the readers that they do not have to be an adult to help fix the problems of today's society.
