Article Summary of Running Wild

London based freelance writer Stephen Battersby explains the threat of extreme weather in his 2012 article titled Running Wild. The title is an apparent play on words attempting to convey the manner in which our climate is changing. In his opening paragraphs Battersby describes the freak occurrence “summer in March” in which a ten day event in the northern hemisphere caused much warmer than usual temperatures. As an example, the author uses a town in Michigan called Pellston that experienced a one day temperature record that surpassed the previous high by more than seventeen degrees. In the second paragraph the article takes a darker tone as the author begins to describe the not so welcome effects of higher temperatures. Pellston may have enjoyed their early summer temperatures; however it was a different story for the Europeans.
The author presents figures that show the 2003 European summer heat wave killed tens of thousands. He also explains the staggering heat from Russia in 2010, the rainstorms that brought never before seen flooding in Pakistan, and the most …show more content…

This is clearly of consequence to all of us as we go about our daily lives living on this planet; it has served to further the discussion on global warming and informs the audience of the dangers of extreme weather. The article leaves several questions to be answered, it comes off as fear mongering because no clear solution is given. The article does present the information in a clear and easy to understand way, but cuts off too short to become truly concerned about the climate changing.
