Condiment with a purpose The Hellmann’s Real Mayonnaise advertisement shows a young girl with big, blue eyes holding a sandwich. The words “It’s time to say no to fake food.” is displayed above the sandwich. At the bottom of the ad it states “It’s time for real.” The word “real” is put in bold and larger font for emphasis. In the right hand corner the actual mayonnaise container is shown with a general overview of the ingredients. All this imagery throughout the advertisement comes together to play on the parent’s emotions of safe, healthy food products for their children. This makes it really hard to miss the main idea of the advertisement. The importance of real food for children is very blunt in the quote. Parents are given the idea of safeness for their child because the quote promotes real food. Another quote in the advertisement that catches the eye is “It’s time for real.” The larger font of “real” as stated above gives a sense of how important it is to pay attention to what is going into child’s body. This is also connected with the image in the ad. The earlier healthy eating is promoted to kids the further it will continue through their lives. To further show a healthy condiment a few of the ingredients such as: “eggs, oil, and vinegar” are listed at the bottom of the page. Basically, the ingredients are giving evidence why the mayonnaise is a good buy. The advertisement is very simply, but with a deep message. The ad came from Southern Living Magazine, which bases itself on a wholesome environment. The Hellmann’s Mayonnaise ad fits perfectly in the magazine.
