But some missions take specific kind of person to succeed. Walt Masters, Farah Ahmedi, and Annie Johnson they all had missions to accomplish. For example, Walt Masters had never had shoes on his feet or gone to a picnic or a party, or even talked to a girl. Farah Ahmedi had lost her leg when she stepped on a landmine behind her house. Walt Masters was in the Klondike Country with his father where they lived and had recently staked a claim. Like many people in that area, the Masters hoped to find gold. Due to unfortunate circumstances and a fall through the ice, Walt’s friend, Loren Hall, is unable to stake his claim where gold had recently been discovered. Besides Loren being hurt, he faced the problem of claim jumpers anxiously waiting to jump his property. Seeing what was about to happen to his neighbor, Walt knew he had to help. According to the text, “In the face of the threatened injustice against old lame Loren Hall, he felt that he (Walt) must do something.” Walt was able to steal the claim jumper’s dogsled, avoid being shot, and reach the city of Dawson to stake the claim for his adversary.
