McCain Foods, the world's largest maker of frozen French fries ranking 13th among the largest private companies in Canada.
The McCain’s started their business in a small community of Florenceville in the late 1950’s, but then the family actually started planting potatoes in their province in 1910. Harrison McCain, the son of a seed potato seller was born on November 3, 1927 in New Brunswick. He received his graduation in Economics from University of Acadia in Wolfville, Nova Scotia and later employed as sales executive for Irving Oil Company.
In their early 20’s Harrison and his younger brother Wallace decided to develop their family business into frozen French fries industry.
Harrison stated, “That’s our business,” he said. “Our father was a farmer, a potato dealer. Our great grandfather was farmer and land-clearer. He saw a piece of woods, cleared a farm and stared growing potatoes.” …show more content…

Harrison McCain, chairman of the board of McCain foods Limited which is the parent company of the McCain group is now one of the largest firms of its kind in the world.
“Two banker types from the United States asked to see me. They sat right there, right there. They said, “Harrison your business has outgrown Florenceville. You need to move. You need to move. You need to move to New York, Toronto, or somewhere else. You need to move,” Harrison stated in an interview. The success story continued, and by early 2000 the company the world’s biggest frozen french fry maker, employing 20,000 people in 11 countries and had a sales of $ 6.4 billion in everything from pizza to juice to desserts.
Harrison McCain was awarded a companion of the order of Canada and a life member of the potato association of America. He was acknowledged as the Canada’s Entrepreneur of the year and the first person to attain Canada’s entrepreneur lifetime achievement
