At McCoy Truck Tire, the owner of the company wants to change the specialty from truck tires to passenger car tires. This is will not change how the company operates, but this will change how shop employees will go about doing their job. The transition from trucks to cars will not be a big change for management in terms of paperwork, but will be a very big change for the employees in the shop that are doing the physical work. Change is very important because without change, the world as we know it would never progress and would be stagnant. The projects at McCoy Truck Tire are very centered on the shop employees. Because the managers to not participate in the physical completion of a task, the employees usually will not respect decisions made regarding how that task is completed, unless those employees are asked for their input. The employees will respect the decisions of someone who has asked for the input of the employees, because those employees feel that no one else truly knows what it takes to get the job done. Because of this culture, the most effective form of leadership would be participative leadership. “Participative leadership involves consulting employees for their suggestions and input before making decisions” (Williams 2017). If a decision was made about how the employees do their job, the employees will only respect the decision if they were consulted, or if that decision was made by someone who has done the same job. “Extrinsic rewards are tangible and visible to others and are given to employees contingent on the performance of specific tasks or behaviors” (Williams 2017). Employees at the truck tire shop must feel that they have a reason to go the extra mile, and right now, the only thing those employees have to look forward to is another day of work after the current day’s work is complete. There are intrinsic rewards that come with the completion of every-day projects at McCoy. “Intrinsic rewards are the natural rewards associated with performing a task or activity for its own sake” (Williams 2017). One may look at a truck that needs an extensive amount of work done, and think about how hard the project will be. They might not be looking forward to the work, but when the project is done, that employee can look back and know that another truck is on the road because of the work that employee did. Also, the person driving the truck would not be able to continue with their route if not for the employee or employees that had worked on the truck. This can be an intrinsic reward for employees, but that alone will not motivate employees to do more than the minimum
