In this artwork the artist uses regular lines, a rhythm of diagonal lines, and a slight tint of an orange in the background of the actual lines. The different directions, overlapping, and crossing of the lines, help imply the chaos and disorder the artist is trying to reveal through this painting.
This is an image that I stumbled upon as I was browsing through my instagram feed. The unique architecture, different colors, and interesting visual elements stood out to me and made me want to perceive the meaning of this image. After reading chapter 2, I was able to identify the form, color, depth, and perspective. Each of these visual cues are present and work together to give this image more meaning and visual appeal. In terms of form, the triangle shape is dominant in this image because there are a lot of them and they are also very large in size.
The shapes and colors within the composition cause viewers’ eyes to move in circular, repetitive motions, absorbing and reabsorbing the information. Naturally, audience members will view the “Overton Park” header first and move from left to right across the panels. This eye movement is facilitated by organizational structure, color, and shape. Organizationally, the information follows the normal pattern of textual information in English, top to bottom, left to right. The green gradiates in darkness and intensity from left to right; and the shapes within each of the images stack like backwards “C’s” or cups.
They lead your eyes to the large boat, onward to the bottom, where there are animals boarding it. The lines are also very sharp. They outline the shapes in the painting, giving the shapes a clear border. The next element is shape. The shapes are at very sharp angles.
Whether it be a movement, an essay, or a novel, motifs in literature and in life are significant and deserve deep investigation. Due to a motif’s ability to reinforce themes through symbolization, imagery and recursion, it is a common sight in today’s most famous works. A prevalent motif in American literature and movements, is that of the animal. Two exceptional examples of pieces that use animal motifs successfully are, Their Eyes Were Watching God, by Zora Neale Hurston and The Yippie Manifesto, by Jerry Rubin. In both of these compositions, animals appear as meaningful motifs, in order to bolster a scene or movement’s emotional weight and significance, and to provide the audience with connections to the outside world.
His ethos is then seen by the pictures; he’s supporting his knowledge of how the toy works by physically showing how the robot transforms into an airplane. McCloud then exemplifies how as we age, we use less and less pictures in our reading (McCloud 740). But he explains that this idea is flawed, and that the combination of words and pictures “have great powers to tell stories…”(McCloud 741). McCloud then goes on to divide the different ways that pictures and words are used in graphic novels. In Word Specific combinations the “pictures illustrate, but don’t significantly add to a largely complete text.”
In fact, in a picture of rain, there are ripples surrounding the raindrop’s hitting the water. The ripples in the water and the distance naturally created is portrayed in the pictures. Accordingly, the illustrator uses techniques to create distance between objects. For instance, when two girls and a dog are enjoying the rain the reader is able to see the scenery from a distance. These elements help to enhance the experience that a reader feels towards the book’s message; to enjoy the weather and
Darker hues to the left and lighter hues reserved to show the sunlight reflecting off the snow to the right. By arranging the composition around the central figure of the fox, Courbet actually draws all of the attention of the viewer to the animal first, to the action taking place on the canvas. The small areas of blood around the carcass provide extra tension between the works light and dark areas with saturated and muted colors. The horizon lines all bring you to the focal point of the fox in the middle of the painting, your eyes then travel around the scene, taking in the rocky ledges and the frozen lake in the background.
The lining in the skin makes the painting look more realistic and the lighting brings out the dimensions very well. The lining is overlapping which shows the movement in the painting. The triangle shape begins at the top of Mary’s head and down the back of Jesus contacting to the bottom of her hands and coming around her shoulder. Spacing is very important

In this particular picture book A Chair for My Mother Williams conveys the arts message through the color yet most importantly the variety of borders on each page. The book starts off with yellow backgrounds as the daughter narrates that she, her grandmother and her mother save up to buy a chair. I notice the borders change within each page. Kahlo used very thin lines to define both the Fridas and aortic valve. This paing had a strong use of implied lines, Frida used implied lines to define the movement and blood flow between the two hearts. She also used them to put influence on the clothing to give them a realistic feel. I didn't see as many shapes as I did line composition. The few shapes I came across throughout the image was an oval and rectangle.
Frida used many different elements of design. For example, there are curvilinear lines to symbolize umbilical cords coming from her body to the six objects floating around her.
