In the movie, Judy Hopps, as a legit police officer (cop) on her first residential day, she was excitedly expecting to be distributed jobs just like any other officers that were given cases to investigate and arrest all the bad guys in the city to make Zootopia a better city. Unfortunately, Chief Bogo doubts about her. She was only given to hold as a parking enforcement officer which is way far behind with her expected position. Although she have hit the target by given out 201 tickets to those cars owners that their parking meter is expired (including herself) before noon to proof Chief Bogo’s doubts about her were wrong, her day is still screwed up. While at this time, her parents invited her for a video call. As in Politeness Theory, Politeness Theory assume that all individuals are concerned with own face wants and needs (Brown & Levinson, 1978, 1987). As an individual, face is what we desired to be presented to the others. Further, Politeness Theory relies on the idea that there are different kinds of face which included positive face and negative face. Positive face refers to the desired self-image that you wish to present to others while negative face reflects an individual's need for freedom of action, freedom to make own decisions. In this case, Judy Hopps chose to maintain her face by showing positive face in front of her parents. She doesn’t want her parents to know her day is bad so she decided to cover up the truth that how bad her day was by faking a smile and making up stories by telling how good her day was instead of telling her parents how much she actually found herself unprepared to face the negative aspects that lie within the city upon her first residential day. Besides, in the theory, there are different types of face threatened in various face-threatening acts, and sometimes the face threats are to the hearer, while other times they are to the speaker. In order not to have anymore face threatening acts that can cause damage to her face, Judy help herself by choosing the preventive face work which is to changing the topic by telling that how tired her day was and she need to rest at that moment so that she could hang up the phone
