The Crucible is a movie about the Salem Witch trials, But there is a deeper meaning behind the movie. The hidden meaning in The Crucible is how easy it is to twist the truth. The meaning is portrayed throughout the movie in many ways and situations. All the situations come together in the end to prove this. People's words are turned and twisted to be used against them. In the opening scene of the movie the young girls of the village are out dancing in the woods at night. The next morning the girls are questioned about their behavior and asked if it is related to witchcraft, the girls start blaming people in the village for witching them. The girls were so afraid of punishment they lied about what they were doing and blamed innocent people just to cover themselves. The girls caused everyone in the village to turn on each other and cause mayhem. She was arrested and placed on trial; she denied being involved and claimed to be pregnant, which saved her from being hanged because the baby was innocent. John tried to get his wife out of jail by exposing the girl's secrets. His attempts don't go as planned and he is accused of witchcraft in the end. Abigail runs away and John is hanged, all because she wanted to be John's lover; she got multiple innocent people killed and ruined the village's balance. The Crucible shows how far a lie or a twisted truth can go and just how much damage it can cause. Abigails and the other girls didn't want to face their punishment. In return there were countless deaths, jailings, and worry in the village. The important people in the village that served as pillars weren't there to take care of animals, crops, or run shops. All because of a single lie that grew over time an entire village was
