“One of my toddler daughter’s favorite things to do is run around the house with a toy cell phone pressed up to her ear. It is a cute sight, but every time I see it I cringe a little. Is she trying to tell me something? Do I use my phone too much around her? Is she going to grow up with a distorted view of the importance of gadgets – smartphones, iPads, and think I prefer these things over her?” (Huffington n.p) - A story from a concerned mother. Technology makes it easier for people to stay in touch, however, it also gives them an excuse to not go and visit their family and friends in person. Catching up online, having frequent video chats might be the easier way but it does not beat the old traditional way of making the effort to go see somebody in person, and being there physically to support them. The use of technology is tarnishing the relationship between couples, and preventing children from communicating with their parents, and letting kids feel left out because of the use of technology in their parents’ lives. If a person were to turn their phone off for just an hour, at the dinner table and engage in a conversation with their family member, it can drastically change their family bond, and their understanding of one another.
