In terms of the benefits and challenges the current medication system has on the patient, many exist. In terms of benefits, the aspect of using a separate drawer for patient’s own medications can lead to easier accessibility. It not only saves time for the patient, but also saves time for the nurse or healthcare provider getting them. In terms of challenges associated with the medication system, the medications held within the Pyxis Medstation can often take a tad longer to supply the patient with compared to the drawer.
While we can be pleased with many benefits that the electronic charting system and patient records keeping system have to offer, don’t you
• The applicant must not be a board member, officer or owner of a medical marijuana dispensary that had its registration revoked or the application must not have had his/her previous agent registration card revoked. If the applicant does not get any response within 30 days, he is considered to have a conditionally valid registration card until further notice. Agent registration cards are valid for 1 year and they can be renewed upon application and acceptance.
Case Project: CVS Pharmacies Plaintiff: United States Health & Human Services (HHS)/ Office for Civil Rights (OCR) Defendant: CVS Pharmacy, Inc. Date of Case: January 16, 2009 Location: United States The media alleged that in several occasions between July 2006 and May 2007 CVS Pharmacy chains all over the United States were disposing protected health information in unsecured dumpsters that were easily accessible by anyone willing to dig in the garbage. The OCR and the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) conducted their investigations of CVS Pharmacy’s compliance with the Privacy Rule. The HIPAA Privacy Rule guards a person’s medical records and other health information by requiring precautions to protect them.
Micromedex is one of the electronic sources that will help me in prescribing medications. Micromedex medication instructions deliver a single source of evidence- based patient education materials. It provides customized medication information, easily understood by any patient, including indications, contraindications, usage instructions, precautions, interactions, storage, disposal and side effects for both prescription and non prescription drugs. This source provides health care personnel to benefit from the ability to quickly share information directly in the workflow, throughout the continuum of care.
Since many health information infrastructure systems are relatively new, there is still variability in the implementation stages that different organizations have achieved. Additionally, most systems will have more than one capability that provides value, so the relationship between the system’s functionality and the resulting impact to patient care must be analyzed in order to determine the value it provides (Einstein, Juzwishin, Kushniruk, & Nahm, 2011). Value of health information infrastructures can be assessed in many different ways, including whether the technology allows the availability of useful information, how that information is utilized by staff and patients, and its impact on health outcomes. For information to be of value and influence medical decision making, it must be comprehensive, accessible, useful, and valid (Fitterer, Mettler, Rohner, & Winter, 2011).
The use of CPOE also increases accuracy and completeness. The clinician and the physician are able to enter orders at multiple places in the hospital. This enhances the clinician performance (Doolan & Bates, 2002) with the implementation of CPOE. Another strategy is
Analyze the primary accounting issues which form the crux of the litigation or fine for the firm, and indicate the impact to the firm as a result of litigation or fine. Provide support for your rationale. Ernst & Young LLP agreed to pay a record $2M fine for failing to fully evaluate three annual audits (during 2005-2007) of Medicis Pharmaceutical Corp’s financial statements. The PCAOB stated that E&Y along with its partners did not properly evaluate Medicis sales returns reserve and “accepted the company 's practice of imposing the reserve for product returns based on the cost of replacing the product, instead of at gross sales price” (Rapoport, 2016, para 4).
Prescribed drug policies entailed varying detail regarding specific drugs or groups of drugs, including ' over the counter ' medications as well as prescription only drugs. In many cases, they recommended or required that advice be sought from a company medical practitioner or from an approved aviation medical examiner (William E. Thomas 43). Screening policies Eighteen airlines indicated that they had an alcohol and/or drugs screening program for aircrew. Unfortunately, variable amounts of detail were provided, and in two cases no information was provided at all.
Three major effects on quality are increased adherence to guideline-based care, enhanced surveillance and monitoring, and decreased medication errors. For example, several studies have shown that physicians who had access to clinical practice guidelines and features such as computerized reminders and alerts were far more likely to provide preventive care than were physicians who did not2-4. Improved Efficiency, Productivity, and Cost Reduction In addition to improving the quality of care the patient receives, studies have shown that the EMR can improve efficiency, increase productivity, and lead to cost reductions3,4. It is common for clinicians who do not have EMR access to order a second set of tests because the results from the first set are unavailable, so one way EMR systems improve efficiency is by making test results readily available to clinicians3,4.
This week I also scan the new arrived prescriptions and fill the balance. By this experiences I got more familiar to the prescriptions locations, prescriptions names and which prescriptions are the fast mover. However, I didn’t really enjoy putting back the new arrived prescriptions after scanning because there were so many of medications and all of them takes a lot of time to put back. This week I also learnt that some medications should be refright till customer come to pick
I have also read about methods of administration which some literature provides evidence of 5Rs and others give as much as 10RS. Whichever way of dispensing the initial 5RS is the basic for individual to familiarize. There are other things that needs to be considered such as washing hands prior to administering, check the drug chart, the right patient, right drug, right route, right amount/dosage, the history or background record of the patient, allergy or intolerance}, the right education provided to the patient, documenting as given, documenting refusal and right evaluation. On the other hand, I need to have that self-awareness of which patient is in the medication room and know how to talk
The U.S. health care is plagued with inefficiencies and poor quality even though 1.7 trillion dollars is invested annually into healthcare. But by using IT in healthcare can increase the cost saving by adopting an HIT or Health Information Technology system. An HIT or Health Information Technology system is a group of data sources that includes a patient electronic medical records, decision support systems, and computerized physician order entry for medications (RAND Corporation, 2005). If hospitals and doctor office adopt an HIT, it can maximize the saving for both inpatient and outpatient care by $77 billion per year (RAND Corporation, 2005). Most of the saving will come from reduced hospital stays, reduced administrative time, and more efficient drug utilization.
It eliminated a lot of strenuous work for me. Consumer-Mediated Exchange provides patients with access to their health information, allowing them to manage their health care online in a way that is comparable to how they might manage their finances through online banking. When in control of their own health information, patients can actively participate in their care coordination by, identifying and correcting wrong or missing health information, identifying and correcting incorrect billing information, tracking and monitoring their own health. ("What is HIE Health Information Exchange?") I also was able to experience this type of exchange for myself when I needed a letter for something my doctor has previously typed up, I was able to log into my chart and print it for myself.
By having an automated calling system, it serves as a reminder to patients of when they need to have medication because patients may be resting and forgets to take their medication. This reminder would help in better medication
