As long as I can remember I have suffered with ADD, which is “a syndrome of disordered learning and disruptive behavior that is not caused by any serious underlying physical or mental disorder and that has several subtypes characterized primarily by symptoms of inattentiveness or primarily by symptoms of hyperactivity and impulsive behavior (as speaking out of turn) or by the significant expression of all three —abbreviation ADD” as defined by Merriam-Webster Dictionary. People would always tell me how it was unfair that I received longer amounts of time on my tests and some of my projects. But others could not understand why or what it feels like to have ADD. When I was first diagnosed with ADD, I was attending public school and I was very young, so I did not really understand what it was. But as time progressed and I learned more about the disorder I was able to explain to people what it was and why I need these accommodations. My three other siblings and I all suffer with this disease and have been diagnosed and medicated for it since we were young. But I feel that these people are wrong because I can tell how focused I’m when I’m on my medicine compared to when I’m off my medication and other people can tell as well. I believe that since people think that our entire society is ADD, which I believe is incorrect, that doctors are over diagnosing people with ADD so that people can receive these accommodations who really do not need them, but people like me who have suffered with it for so long and who actually needs these accommodations to succeed are being categorized as people who have these accommodations, but do not really need
