Mental Health First Aid Philosophy

The philosophy is based on the premise of recovery and resiliency. Mental Health First Aid provides educational awareness to the public that individuals dealing with mental health disorders or issues can get better or recover (i.e., cope and still live a fulfilling and productive live or remission/reduction of symptoms) by using their strengths to stay well. As stated by Parker J. Palmer, in his book The Courage to Teach, an effective teacher or instructor needs to teach beyond techniques. Becoming an effective teacher will required the development of identity and integrity as a Mental Health First Aid instructor. As such, it requires the skill and ability to connect with workshop participates (students), and to connect them with the subject.
