Older books still have relevance today that readers can understand and learn from. Romeo and Juliet is a good example because they have so many hardships throughout the story just like people have many hardships throughout life. Romeo and Juliet is a relevant story that readers can still relate to, readers can relate to the character’s mental health issues and relationship struggles. In the story the reader can relate to family conflict and parental disapproval. We see family conflict when Romeo states, “Is she a Capulet? O dear account! My life is my foe’s dept” (1.5.125-126). The reader can relate to this event because it shows that family conflict can affect decisions and because Romeo might not want to marry Juliet if she is a Capulet because of the feud between his family and hers. This is relatable to people today because conflict between families and friends could influence people’s decision because they do not want to ruin a friendship or family ties. The reader can relate to the parental disapproval and control that Juliet faces when she does not want to marry Paris. It states, “Hang thee, young baggage: disobedient wretch... get thee to church Thursday or never after look me in the face” (3.5.164-167). This is relevant to the reader because they could have parents that control every aspect of their life and if they do not do what their parents want, they will get in trouble. Just like Juliet the kids are left with no choice but to do what their parents want them to do even if they do not want to, causing more problems within a family and causing the child's behavior to change because they are feeling alone and without a
