Mental illness could change a usual person into a criminal and forget that medical treatment is important to themselves while another person, is the victim of their crime. Mental illness could treat the and decrease the amount of crime that occurs with the innocent people. The people who are the victims of the crime are risking their lives for the excuse. However, mental illness is a disease, it should not be an excuse for committing a crime because the negative behavior could affect the victim, society, and the trial. People who suffer from mental illness behave in a negative way to the victims more than once(Sheffer). The victims' life was invaded with fears. “The family predicted that their relatives were the victims of an attempted mugging”(Sheffer). The family fears that their safety is not secure enough; because the family didn’t know much about mental illness. It was an attempt to be an accident instead of a crime. Most people in the society can’t accept the behavior that the ill person has done. Base on the University of Virginia Tech, the student are aware of the illness guy. The illness guy can continue his tuition with police to enforce his behavior. “A number of students called the campus police, probably at least twice in regard to his stalking behavior”(Breggin). “Mental health interventions do not protect society because the person is almost always quickly discharged because of his insurance coverage”(Breggin).
