I have grown significantly in the areas of teaching, working with colleagues, and professional identity growth. I came into teaching last year feeling terribly unqualified and having little to offer students. Through the course of the summer and the fall semester, I have developed confidence and comfort in teaching, feeling I have much to offer students. During this fall semester, I have developed a close working relationship with my cohort members which feels rewarding and has provided the support to help me succeed professionally. I feel more secure in my identity as a counselor educator which has helped me perform at my best as a student, teacher, and supervisor.

I believe this profession provides a great service to society and individuals. I feel this an undervalued service that makes a significant positive difference in the lives of people, families, and communities. I made a career change in mid-life due to many factors; a major factor is my previous occupation did not make a difference. This feeling of positive contribution to others is what has driven me, in part, to persevere during times of academic and professional adversity. I feel that to be best counselor educator which I am able, I must continually change, grow, and learn. This is exhausting at times; however, I am open to this necessity and strive to be better. I intend to maintain this perspective through my professional career. I pursued a doctoral degree in counselor education due to my many positive personal and educational experiences with faculty during my masters program.
