The root of a problem always starts with an issue that wasn't resolved. In Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare, at the end of the play the two main characters end up being killed. Their families disliked each other which meant that they couldn't tell anyone about their love, except for a few people. Mercutio, Romeo's best friends was one of the few people. Because Mercutio and Romeo and Juliet knew that they couldn't tell their families Mercutio did not tell anyone. From the series of events that took part in the play, Mercutio is seen as the root of the problem. Even though Mercutio is Romeo's best friend, the cause of Romeo and Juliet's death is Mercutio because of the way he handles the situation of knowing what Romeo and Juliet are going through. …show more content…
At the beginning of the play, Romeo was upset because he thinks he loves another woman and couldn't be with her. To try to help and take his mind off of her, Mercutio makes Romeo go to a party with another woman to show that there's just no that one girl. The party that they were going to was Juliet's family, the Capulets who were planning for Juliet to meet her soon to be husband, Paris. Romeo initially does not want to go, but changes his mind after Mercutio keeps insisting that he should go. Just as Mercutio made Romeo go to the party, he didn't stop Romeo to make rash decisions once he got there. After going to the party, he spots Juliet and instantly falls in love with her making a quick decision that he wants to marry her. Even though Mercutio is also at the party he barely takes Romeo out of making this quick decision with Juliet. Even though Romeo has made it clear that he wants to be with Juliet, Mercutio as a friend, doesn't make him think about the consequences before he acts on
